One Liverpool attacker may never play for his club again, judging by his manager’s comments.
Liverpool have several youngsters out on loan.
While some are enjoying better spells, others are in bad shape.
The likes of Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, and Lewis Koumas have all made an impact at their respective clubs.
However, injuries have been a major setback for some of the club’s other loan players.
Jayden Danns, Doak, Luke Chambers, and Calum Scanlon are some of the Reds youngsters who have had ill luck with injuries this season.
Chambers, for example, returned to Liverpool to be treated after suffering a recurrence of the back injury that had cut short his second spell at Wigan Athletic.
Recently, his manager, Ryan Lowe, revealed the circumstances under which Chambers returned to Liverpool for assessment.
It was also recently confirmed that Jayden Danns’ unfortunate loan spell at Sunderland will end without the youngster kicking a ball once at the Stadium of Light.
While the loan spells of Chambers and Danns have ended due to injury, one other loanee may have played his last game for the club, but no due to injury.
The ‘premature’ end to his loan spell is because of his manager’s team selection.
The player in question is Kaide Gordon.
The Liverpool youngster joined Norwich City on deadline day of the summer transfer window.
He made just 10 appearances for the Canaries, scoring one goal.
Liverpool recalled the winger in mid-January, but he was allowed to return to the Championship for a second loan spell of the season, this time joining Portsmouth.
However, his time in Portsmouth has been disappointing, with Gordon making just four appearances off the bench for the club.
Portsmouth, who were in danger of relegation, have managed to climb away from the danger zone and secure a second season in the Championship.
They are currently six points ahead with two games still to play.
But due to the fixture lists and the number of teams between them and the bottom three, their safety is now secured.
But despite their Championship status being secured, it appears Gordon may not feature in either of the remaining games as Pompey eye a higher finish.
This is according to their manager, John Mousinho, who revealed that his focus on winning games means that ‘underperforming’ players like Gordon will not feature.
Addressing the player’s lack of game time ahead of his side’s trip to Sheffield, Mousinho said in an interview with The News:
“I am not sure about team selection yet.
Some of it is about a bit of luck as well, with it also being crunch time at this time of the season?
